Baby Lock makes some of the most quilter-friendly machines on the market — wide throat spaces, smooth stitch quality, and features that make free-motion quilting and large projects manageable. But with so many models available, it's hard to know which one is right for where you are in your quilting journey.
At Flash Sew & Quilt, we're an authorized Baby Lock dealer with three Florida locations — Sarasota, Naples, and Jupiter — and our team works with these machines every day. We've put together this guide based on what we actually see customers buying, asking about, and succeeding with.
If you want to try any of these machines before you buy, come in. That's what we're here for.
Before getting into specific models, here are the features that matter most for quilting:
Best for: Beginners and budget-conscious quilters who want a real machine
The Jazz 2 is one of Baby Lock's most popular quilting machines for good reason — it gives you a full 12" of throat space at an entry-level price. If you've been fighting queen-size quilts through a machine with 4-6" of throat space, the difference is immediately noticeable. You get 28 built-in stitches, drop feed for free-motion quilting, and a mechanical design that's simple to operate and reliable over time.
It's not a computerized machine and it doesn't need to be at this price point. If you're new to quilting or upgrading from a basic home machine, the Jazz 2 is a smart starting point.
Best for: Quilters who want computerized convenience at an entry price
The Presto 2 sits at the same price point as the Jazz 2 but takes a different approach — it's a computerized machine with an LCD screen, giving you more stitch options and easier settings management. Where the Jazz 2 is mechanical simplicity, the Presto 2 gives you more control at your fingertips. Both are excellent entry points into Baby Lock quilting — which one fits you better depends on whether you prefer simplicity or features.
Best for: Quilters who prioritize speed and precision straight-line stitching
The Accomplish 2 is built for speed — it runs at up to 1,500 SPM, the fastest in this lineup. It's a straight-stitch-only machine, which makes it the specialist of the group. If you do a lot of piecing and straight-line quilting and want the most precise, fastest stitch quality available in this range, the Accomplish 2 is worth a serious look. It's not the right machine if you need decorative stitches, but for the quilter focused on precision and throughput, it's exceptional.

Best for: Intermediate quilters who want extra throat space and more stitch options
The Allegro gives you 12" of throat space alongside 200+ built-in stitches and a computerized interface — a meaningful step up from the Jazz 2 at the same price as the Accomplish 2. If you want versatility (decorative stitches, a wider range of quilting techniques) along with that extra workspace, the Allegro is the better choice at this price point over the Accomplish 2. It's a popular machine with our customers for good reason — it hits the sweet spot of capability and affordability.
Best for: Serious quilters ready for a significant step up in capability
The Soprano is where Baby Lock quilting machines start to feel like a different category. You get a larger throat space, stitch regulator capability for consistent free-motion results, and a build quality that serious quilters notice immediately. If you've outgrown your entry-level machine and find yourself fighting it on larger or more complex projects, the Soprano is worth the investment. Customers who make the jump to the Soprano consistently tell us they wish they'd done it sooner.
Best for: Advanced quilters who want professional-level features in a home machine
The Ballad is a premium home quilting machine built for quilters who take their craft seriously. It offers an extended throat space, built-in stitch regulation, and the kind of engineering that makes free-motion quilting feel effortless rather than a battle. If you're producing complex quilts regularly and want a machine that keeps up with your ambitions, the Ballad is one of the best options Baby Lock makes at this level.
Best for: Dedicated quilters who want the best Baby Lock home quilting machine available
The Anthem is Baby Lock's flagship quilting machine for serious home quilters. It combines an extra-large throat space, built-in stitch regulation, 804 built-in stitches, and a level of precision that puts it in a class by itself among home quilting machines. If you're making quilts to gift, sell, or show — and you want a machine that genuinely matches your skill level — the Anthem is the one. It's a significant investment, but customers who own one don't consider going back.

Choosing a quilting machine is a personal decision — what works for one quilter doesn't always work for another. Throat space preferences, the kind of quilting you do, your budget, and how you like to work all factor in. The best way to make the right call is to sit down at a machine and sew on it.
At Flash Sew & Quilt, you can do exactly that. Visit us in Sarasota, Naples, or Jupiter and our staff will walk you through the options, answer your questions, and let you try the machines that interest you. No pressure — just good information from people who know these machines well.
