  • Set of towels
  • ½ Yard of cotton print fabric
  • Madeira® Cotona thread for sewing
  • Mary Ellen’s Best Press Clear Starch Alternative
  • Basic sewing supplies

  • Baby Lock Joy sewing machine

  1. Measure the band at the bottom of the towels. Jot down the measurement.

  2. Cut strips from the cotton print fabric ½” wider than the measured band.

  3. Fold in ¼” on each of the long edges and press well.

    1. Tip: Spray the strip with Mary Ellen’s Best Press Clear Starch Alternative to get a nice folded strip.

  4. Set up the machine for straight stitch sewing:

    1. Set the length to 2.0.

    2. Use the left needle position.

    3. Thread the machine; top and bobbin with coordinating Madeira Cotona thread color.

    4. Attach the walking foot.

  5. Pin the strip to the band area on the towel, leaving a 3/4” over hang on both sides of the towel.

    1. Turn the overhanging area to the backside of the towel.

    2. Press the raw edge under ¼” and pin in place.

    3. It should line up with the strip on the front of the towel.

  6. Using a 1/8” seam allowance, stitch close to the outer edges on the strip going at a slow even pace. Remove the pins as you sew.
