Simple squares can be surprisingly tricky to cut perfectly—unless you’re using a GO! die. The GO! Square 5½" (5" finished) Die cuts up to six layers of fabric at once, giving you crisp, accurate blocks every time for fast, frustration-free piecing.

How to Die Cut 5½" Squares

AQ Cutting Mat Required: GO! Cutting Mat 10" × 10" (25.4 cm × 25.4 cm)

• For best cutting results, position fabric on the lengthwise grain (straight of grain) as it goes under the roller.
• Cut 6" fabric strips across the width of fabric.
• Fanfold strips into 6" widths and place on the die so layers cover the blades.
• Cut 6 squares across the width of fabric. One yard of 40" wide fabric cuts approximately 36 squares.

Die Tips

• With some fabrics, a thread or two may remain where die blades meet—simply snip with scissors.
• On angled dies, align fabric with the edge of the shape, not the edge of the die board.
• Use good-quality fabrics to reduce stretch and distortion.
• Always test cut a single shape before mass cutting to confirm fabric orientation and results.
