Rope Bowl - Gathering Tray with Handles - Sarasota
Join Lisa Curt in Sarasota on Thursday, June 18th from 10:30-4:00
Impress your guests with a handcrafted tray designed for relaxed, everyday entertaining. In this class you’ll create a large, shallow tray with handles while focusing on controlling a wide base, maintaining a flat form, and managing coil height and tension in a larger piece.
Fabric added to the base contributes to both structure and visual interest in this tray design. At the start of class, you’ll be shown the fabric-in-base technique is used in this project, so you can understand the process and move forward. While a large fabric motif creates the strongest visual impact, you may choose any fabric print for the base.
Colorful rope may be used as an accent, such as in the tray walls, but should not replace fabric in the base. If the fabric technique feels challenging, you may complete the base with wrapped rope segments for a different finished look while maintaining stability.
Time permitting, you will make one or more cloth napkins to coordinate with your set.
You Will Learn How To:
• Maintain a flat, even base while working at a larger scale
• Control coil height and tension in a shallow form
• Add handles to a larger-format tray with attention to balance and placement
Take Home Project: One tray approximately 12 inches wide (not including handles) x 2 inches high. Because machine setup and sewing style vary, final tray size may differ slightly from the sample.
