Scallops may look decorative, but they’re really about control, rhythm, and learning to trust what your hands and the rope are doing under the needle.

You’ll start with a flat candle mat to learn the motion and get comfortable with spacing and tension,  then move on to a rope bowl to feel how adding scallops can change once the sides begin to rise. Fabric wrapping is encouraged, since wrapped rope behaves differently than unwrapped rope and helps you feel what’s happening as you sew.

Bowl size and the number of scallops can be adjusted so you can work at a pace that feels right for  you. Design details are kept simple so the focus stays on technique—skills you’ll carry into future rope projects.

You Will Learn How To:
• Adjust spacing and tension as you sew with rope
• Form consistent scallops with control and rhythm
• Apply scallops to both flat work and a shallow bowl

Take Home Project:
• One flat candle mat with scalloped edging, approximately 7-9 inches.
• One small to medium rope bowl with scalloped edging, approximately 10-12 inches wide x 2 inches high (or smaller).

Final size and shape can be adjusted. Your pieces may vary based on individual shaping and technique.
